This video research is focusing on young and emerging artists with a special emphasis on female perspectives asking questions such as: How did they become an artist, future & challenges during the political situation? What is the role and responsibility of young artists? What political challenges are they facing?
The project focusses on perspectives of female artists from different artistic fields, socially engaged art and the intersection of societal change and politics with art and culture. Specific topics are the perception of the artists role and responsibility within society, careers, as well as challenges and specific insights into Tunis’ current scene.
We interviewed eight artists in their studios in Tunisia, this being self-trained artists, painters, art mediator, art educator, musician and theatrical actress. During the recordings we asked and discussed with the artist how they want to be presented, which thematic clusters they are specifically working on and what ideas they were willing to share more about. The interview approach being a natural conversation led by topics and few fairly fixed leding questions.
